This is a comprehensive tour of the croatian southern Adriatic coast – the Dalmatia region.
Host cities:
We picked up Dubrovnik as the starting / ending spot of the tour. Your other host city will be one of the beautiful towns of the famous Riviera of Makarska ( eg. Zivogosce ). Both cities are close to all the famous tourist spots, so there are:
- no frequent changes of hotels, and
- no long rides (max. 290 km in total per day) .
This way you can explore in detail the region.
In addition:
- 1 local lunch on the Neretva delta
- wine tasting on an island family farm)
PROGRAM
1st DAY: Accommodation in the hotel in Dubrovnik. Dinner and overnight.
Dubrovnik
2nd DAY: After breakfast you will explore the magic old city of Dubrovnik . The old city is on the UNESCO's World Herritage list. The city is millenary and it is surrounded by magnificent walls and fortresses which testify the tempestous political and cultural history of the city. Walking through the Stradun street you will discover why the citizens of Dubrovnik are so proud of the renowned history of their city. Every corner of the city offers a unique frame for every sight. The guide will show you the beauties and curiosities of this wonderful city such as the franciscan Monastery, the old monastery farmacy – one of the oldest in Europe and the Cathedral Treasury known for its silver and gold values. The afternoon is at leisure to wonder around this beautiful city. We suggest a walk on the old city walls from where you will take the most amazing photos of the city. Dinner and overnight.
Dubrovnik › Peljesac peninsula › Korcula
3rd DAY: After breakfast the tour proceeds along the beautiful peninsula of Peljesac. Once you have arrived in Orebic you will take the ferry for the island of Korcula. Korcula is one of the most green islands in the Adriatic sea. It is rich in art and culture. Some of the most interesting historic sights are the Chatedral of St Mark, the Franciscan monastery with its beautiful Venetian Gothic cloister, the civic council chambers, the palace of the former Venetian governors, the grand 15th and 16th century palaces of the local merchant nobles, and the massive city fortifications. Korcula is also well known as the birthplace of the world's famous seaman, inventor and venetian salesman - Marco Polo (1254.-1324.). You will be served a snack of figs and wine on a family farm for refreshment. After you have explored Korcula, return to Dubrovnik. Dinner and overnight.
Neretva delta
4th DAY: After breakfast, the tour proceeds north. On your way you will go on an excursion to the wonderful river Neretva delta. The Neretva river valley is a vast area of wetlands, abounding in rich and various flora and fauna, and is famous as a breeding place of various species of birds. You will have the opportunity to go on a journey through the channels on board of a traditional boat – «ladja», followed by a delicious lunch of local specialties. The journey continues to the beautiful Riviera of Makarska, accommodation in the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Island of Hvar
5th DAY: After breakfast, you will take the ferry to the island of Hvar. In 1997. the Traveller magazine inserted Hvar on the list of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world. Hvar is also one of the favourite destinations of the world's celebrities. You will see its cultural beauties and historical monuments (the Fortress, the Theatre, its elegant square etc.). In the afternoon from the city of Stari Grad. Return to the Riviera of Makarska. Dinner and overnight.
Split › Trogir
6th DAY: Morning visit of Split - cultural, economic, sports and touristic centre – the biggest city in Dalmatia. The city is divided in the old city inside the walls of the Diocletian's palace ( one of the most impressive roman ruins in the world; listed by UNESCO) with pictoresque narrow streets, and the new city along the seaside and the hill. You will proceed to Trogir - the old city is on the UNESCO's list. It was founded on an island by the Greeks in the 3 rd century a.c. You will visit the central square with the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, the patron of the city. Walking through the old streets you will enjoy the various epoches - constructions such as the Chappel of Bl.Ivan Ursini, the Cipiko Palace, the Town Hall, the Church of St.Barbara etc. Return to the Riviera of Makarska, dinner and overnight.
Sibenik › Zadar
7th DAY: After breakfast, you will hit north and first you will explore the beautiful dalmatian city of Sibenik. You will take a walk through the old city. You can't miss to visit the St. James Cathedral, one of the most famous pieces of work of the late medieval ( listed by UNESCO). Around the Cathedral, inside the absides, there is a frieze of 71 slucptures representing the late citizens from the time when the Cathedral was built. The next beauty to explore is Zadar. The city is 3000 years old, it has been the capital of Dalmatia for centuries. It has preserved the antique appearance of its streets among the old city walls.The city is well known for its St.Donat Church. In 1396. the first croatian university was founded in this city. The first croatian novel has been written in this city, as well as the first newspaper has been edited here. In 1821 the first bottle of Maraschino liqueur was made in Zadar – a nice souvenir to take home. There is one more interesting atraction in Zadar - The Sea organ - it plays music by the way sea waves enter tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps. Return to the Riviera of Makarska, dinner and overnight.
8th DAY: After breakfast, departure for home journey.
